On Tuesday, September 21 Statons 52, 53 (Fame), and 55 (Good Fellowship), were alerted to respond to East Bernard Street in West Chester Borough for a report of a dryer on fire in the basement. Within two minutes of dispatch both Engine 52-2 and Assistant 52 responded to the fire. Upon arrival of Assistant 52 it was reported by the homeowner that there were flames coming from the dryer. Assistant Chief Haring, Lieutenant Good, and Firefighter McCorkle then proceeded to the basement with tools in hand and a water fire extinguisher. While they were enroute to the basement Firefighters Graves and Sluk awaited the order to pull a handline if it was needed. Once the interior crew reached the dryer it was determined that no handline would be needed and the clothes in the dryer were quickly extinguished. Once the fire was out the assignment was held to Engine 52-2 and Ladder 53 and units cleared shortly after ventilation was complete.
