By Apprentice Fire Fighter Francis Smiley Jr.
October 25, 2013

From October 21 to October 25 the Good Will responded to four structure fires (one working fire), an odor investigation inside, two fire alarms, and a relocate. On Monday, October 21, a fire alarm was dispatched at 127 South Matlack Street. It was then upgraded to smoke in the building and both engines made the response. The cause of the smoke was determined to be a heater. On Wednesday around 1PM the Good Will was dispatched for two engines to assist on a house fire in the 54 local at 1230 Spring Valley Lane. Engine 52-2 quickly responded with five and arrived as the fourth due engine, the crew provided ventilation and helped overhaul the house. Engine 52-1 also made the response with a crew of four and assisted at the scene with mop up. Later Wednesday evening the company was alerted for a RIT response to Longwood's first due for the house fire. Engine 52-1 responded with a crew of five followed by Air 52 with three. Prior to arrival, command requested the RIT recall and proceed in to Station 25 to cover their company. Both 52 units returned to West Chester about an hour after the initial dispatch. On Thursday, October 24, a fire alarm was dispatched to 326 North Walnut Street. The police department arrived reporting smoke on the second floor and the assignment was upgraded to a building fire. Engine 52-2 responded with four, arriving first with nothing showing. Upon arrival a supply line was laid and the crew went interior to investigate the source of the smoke. It was determined that there was burnt food on the second floor and the department was quickly placed available. Engine 52-1 also made the response to this building fire along with Ladder and Engine 53.

Units: Engine 52-2, Engine 52-1, Air 52
