| On July 9th, 2009 numerous members of the Good Will Fire Co. No.2 traveled to the Wagontown Fire Company to support our fellow members who were graduating from their respective classes. Five members were graduating from their Firefighter 1 class while One member was graduating from his Pumper Driver/Operator class. The Firefighter 1 course is 160 hours long and is designed to educate entry level firefighters in the basics of firefighting. This course covers topics such as Forcible Entry, Hazardous Materials Operations, Structural Firefighting , Building Construction, and various other topics. Essential this course provides students with the basic knowledge and skills that are required to be proficient within the fire company. Firefighter's Josh DiNunzio, JP Haynes, and Max Hards completed their Firefighter 1 course in the first spring class of 2009 while Firefighter's Ryan Miller and Rob Harrison completed their course in the second class of 2009. Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Llyod Ayers serves as the keynote speaker for the evening and spoke about the importance of training in every firefighters career and urged everyone in attendance to continue to complete training throughout the life of their career. Each class chose a speaker, who provided the classes insight to their experiences throughout the length of their class. Each class also voted by secret ballot to select a cadet who demonstrated superior knowledge and ability through classroom and practical skills throughout the class. One of our own Firefighter's, Ryan Miller, was choosen as one of the recipients on the second class of 2009, it is quite an honor to have one of our own win this award! Each firefighter was awarded a diploma stating that they had completed the skills required to graduate their Firefighter 1 course, their certificates were issued by either their parents or by Lieutenant Gerry DiNunzio. Firefighter Alex Creager graduated from the Pumper driver/Operator course, this course is designed to teach students the art of safely and efficently driving and operating fire department pumping apparatus, which includes effectively operating the Pump anf Foam System on the fire apparatus,an Emergency Vehicle Operators Course, and an on the road test. Firefighter Creager is the third firefighter within the company to successfully complete this course. The officer's and member's also urge all members to attend training throughout their career, as we all know....Training NEVER ends! |
