September 30, 2020

In September Station 52 had 37 calls for service, crews continued to stay busy with training and continuing to staff the firehouse for quick response times.

On 9/14/20 Engine 52-1(FF C. Simpkins) and Engine 52-2(Capt P. Widmayer) responded to the reported vehicle fire in the 900 Block of Old Fernhill Rd. Crews arrived to find the fire knocked by an extinguisher with a small fire behind the fire wall. Units cleared a short time after arrival.

On 9/23/20 At approximately 10:49 AM The West Chester Borough Fire Department along with Good Fellowship Ambulance & EMS Training Institute was dispatched to the area of Wilmington Pike and Skiles Blvd for the HazMat incident. Engine 52-1(FF A. Smiley) responded shortly after dispatch. Engine 52-1 arrived as the First Due Engine along with Chester County HazMat 15-1 and Chief 15. Captain 51 took Command and added an Engine from Goshen Fire Company. The crew of Engine 52-1 and Engine 54-1 stretched an 1 3/4” attack line and a 2 1/2 attack line off of Engine 52-1. Engine 52-1 prepared for high volume water operations while the HazMat team prepared for hazard mitigation. Tanker 52(FF D. Smiley Sr.), Air 52(FF J. Haas) and Assistant 52 also made the response. Crews operated on scene for approximately 4 hours before returning available. Cover companies handled 2 box alarms and an AFA while crews operated.
