The long weekend proved to be extra long for the West Chester Fire Department crews. The Good Will Fire Co. started with an evening relocate to Delco Station 41. The crew stood by while Newtown Square handled a fire at a veterinary hospital. The busiest day was 02/16/2020 with 4 calls for the day. The first call at 0303 hours was dispatched as an accident with entrapment but crews were recalled by West Goshen Police prior to arrival. The next call at 0402 hours was a reported house fire in the 800 block of Frank Rd. Crews investigated a smoke condition in the residence that was eventually narrowed down to to a heater. After assisting Station 51 with packing 1400 feet of 5 inch the crews went home for some rest. At 1717 hours the crews were dispatched to the Safe Harbor shelter for the building fire. The crews determined the cause of this alarm was a dishwasher that had met the end of its career. At 1913 hours the Good Will crew was dispatched to the unit block of Sherman alley for a fire alarm. The cause of this alarm was a culinary mishap. The final call for the day was dispatched at 2005 hours as an appliance fire. This turned out to be an overheated Franklin Stove. (For those that don't know, a Franklin stove is a wood stove for heating the residence.) The crew from Good Will Engine 52-2 checked the attic area for potential charring while the crew from Ladder 53 checked the roof area. All appeared in order and the incident turned back over to the home owner. And finally, there was a fire alarm on 02/17 to finish out the long weekend.
