Hazmat Response in 52 Local

At approximately 1230 hours on 06/20/2019 Station 51,52 and 53 were dispatched to 833 Lincoln Ave for reported smoke from a building. Engine 52-2 (Widmayer) responded with three. Upon arrival Captain 51 (McClure) requested a team with a meter and Little Giant ladder to the rear of the property. Engine 52-2 crew made contact with Captain 51. Captain 51 and FF Johnson made entry into the property and discovered a chemical hood where there appeared to have been a fire. The proprietor of the business was no longer on location. Crews exited the building and requested Hazmat 15. The adjacent properties were evacuated while awaiting Hazmat arrival. Crews assisted Hazmat 15 with decon and back up teams. The situation was deemed safe and units cleared around 1630 hours. Units did have to seek shelter during a torrent of rain. Crews were assisted by the GFAC Rehab unit.
