| In the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 2, Station 52 was dispatched to a commercial building in the 300 block of Westtown Road for the fire alarm. Upon the response of Engine 52-2 (Capt. DiMeo) the box alarm upgrade was transmitted due to West Goshen PD officers reporting they had a visible smoke condition inside. Engine 52-2 arrived first, reporting a one story commercial strip with nothing showing except for an active alarm system. Crews made entry to find heavy smoke throughout, stretching an 1.34" handline. Ladder 53, Engine 52-1 (Lt. Rychlak), and Engine 51-2 arrived next, fulfilling their assignments. Crews found the source of the smoke to be a grease fire, inside a large smoker, and quickly extinguished the fire, finding no extension. All units were clear of the scene in about an hour. On Wednesday, May 4, at 11:24PM the box alarm was transmitted to the 200 block of South Bolmar Street for the reported residential fire. Engine 52-2 (Lt. Rychlak) responded in 60 seconds, and arrived less than a minute later reporting nothing evident from a two story end of the row. Upon investigating, the Engine crew found a large flower bed on fire outfront, with exposures to the siding and front door. The fire was quickly knocked with a water can, and the mopped up with the booster line. The assignment was quickly downgraded to 1 and 1 (Engine 52-2 and Ladder 53), and units cleared in about 30 minutes after finding no extension. Both of the above minor fires, could have turned into something much more had it not been for the quick response times of Engine Company 52. |
