On Monday, January 23, members were kept busy, handling three box alarms and an inside odor investigation. First, at 1:23PM, the box alarm was dispatch to the 1400 block of Larch Lane, in the 54 local, for the reported attached garage on fire. Engine 52-1, led by Captain DiMeo, responded first and took the roll of the first due engine company. Upon arrival, crews stretch 400' of 3", and 150' of 1.75" hose to quickly handle a fire in the garage. The incident was quickly placed under control and Engine 52-2 and Air 52 also made the response, units cleared in about 30 minutes. Then, shortly after 3PM the commercial fire assignment was dispatched to the 1100 block of Downingtown Pike in the 39 local, bringing Tanker 52 to the scene. The Tanker responded shortly after dispatch, led by Firefighter Smiley Jr., and arrived with the rest of the assignment to find wires burning with possible extension to the building. Once PECO secured the power, crews checked for extension and found none. At 4:38PM the odor investigation inside was dispatched to the 500 block of East Barnard Street, and crews found the source to be a gas powered generator. Weekly drill night began at 7PM, and members trained on confined space searches, before being interrupted by a house fire dispatch to the 25 local, for which RIT52 was due. Engine 52-1, Engine 52-2, and Air 52 quickly hit the street with six members on each, and all 52 units were cleared as they arrived onscene. An average of 12 volunteers responded to each incident.
