By Second Class Firefighter Dave Smiley Jr.
September 19, 2017

Tuesday, September 19, kept Station 52 busy, starting around 5AM with a first due fire alarm. At approximately 8AM, one engine was dispatched to assist 54/56 in the 1500 block of Paoli Pike for a commercial gas leak inside. Engine 52-2 (Captain DiMeo) responded, and upon arrival the crew was sent to the roof to assist Ladder 56's crew. Once on the roof, an A/C unit was found to be the source of the leak, and was quickly secured. Around 930AM, Engine 52-2 (FF Smiley Jr.) made the response to the 700 block of East Market Street. The Engine was recalled upon arrival by EMS. At 2:05PM, Air 52 (Lt. Rychlak) made the response, as part of the second alarm assignment, to the 100 block of Kirk Road for the working residential fire. Upon arrival, the crew assisted with opening up and filling cylinders. Minutes after returning from the 59 job, the second alarm assignment was dispatched for a garage fire in the 1500 block of Johnnys Way. Engine 52-2 (Capt. DiMeo) and Air 52 (FF M. Boyajian) responded shortly after dispatch and arrived as 54/56 units were making the knock on a detached garage fire. The crew of 52-2 assisted with checking for extension into the dwelling before being placed available. As units were clearing up, another reported fire was called in at an assisted living facility in the 1000 block of Wilmington Pike. Engine 52-2, Air 52, and Squad 52 (FF A. Smiley) made the response, and arrived shortly after. That incident was also placed under control quickly, and units were back in quarters about 30 minutes after dispatch. To end the day, around 7PM, an Engine from 52 was dispatched to the 1300 block of West Chester Pike for the accident reported serious. Engine 52-2 (Capt. DiMeo) responded, and upon arrival the crew assisted 54/56 crews with cleaning up before returning a short time later.
