By Third Class Firefighter Dave Smiley Jr.
March 20, 2017

Around 2PM on Monday, March 20, Station 25 (Longwood), DelCo 59 (Concordville), and RIT52 were dispatched to the 4300 block of South Creek Road for the reported house on fire. Engine 52-1 (Lt. Davis) quickly made the response with 5, and while enroute Chief 59 arrived with fire showing from a farmhouse with extension to multiple greenhouses. The Chief then requested the first alarm tanker task force and the working fire dispatch, adding Tanker 52 (FF A. Smiley) and Air 52 (Captain DiMeo) to the assignment. Engine 52-1 arrived as the third due Engine Company, and the assignment was changed from RIT, to fulfilling the first due Truck Company duties. The Engine crew provided two skylights for interior crews, while also opening and clearing windows throughout the fire building. Tanker 52 arrived and fell into place with the Tanker rotation, and Air 52 arrived to fill cylinders, while Captain 52 assumed the water supply officer role. The fire was placed under control in about an hour and a half, and units were back in the borough around 5:30PM. Around 9PM, while members were participating the weekly drill night, the box assignment was dispatched to the unit block of Apple Row in the 25 box area for the reported roof on fire. Engine 52-1 (Captain DiMeo), Air 52 (Lt. Creager), and Squad 52 (Lt. Rychlak) made the response but were cancelled prior to arrival by 25 command.
