At 10:10PM on Thursday, May 30, Stations 54 and 56 (Goshen) along with Station 6 (West Whiteland) were dispatched to northbound on the Route 100 by-pass north of Route 202 for the truck fire. As units made the response Chester County Fire Radio advised Chief 54 that the report was an oil tanker well off. Assistant 54 arrived onscene and reported a gasoline tanker well involved with 8500 gallons of gas onboard. At 10:22 the assignment was upgraded to a hazardous materials incident, bringing Hazmat 15, Comm 1, Medic 91, Tanker 52, Tanker 39, Engine 47-5, Engine 4-5, and Tanker 61. Engine 6-2 arrived in the southbound lane and put the deck gun inservice in an attempt to stop the fire from making its way to the flammable contents of the tanker. Crews from Goshen and West Whiteland then pulled two hand lines which quickly knocked down and contained the fire. The crews then established a long period of cooling the tank in order to make sure it would not reach ignition temperature. Tanker 52 cleared the scene and was in quarters by 3AM on Friday morning
